Powdered balancers V Pelleted Balancers

When it comes to choosing between a powdered balancer and a pelleted balancer for horses, there are a few factors to consider.

One advantage of powdered balancers is their versatility. Because they come in a powdered form, they can easily be mixed with other feeds or supplements. This allows horse owners to customize their horse's diet more precisely, tailoring it to their specific needs.

Powdered balancers also tend to be more concentrated, meaning you can provide your horse with the necessary nutrients in smaller amounts, which can be particularly beneficial for overweight horses, picky eaters or horses with limited appetites.

Powdered balancers contain less fillers and are considerably lower in sugars and starch than a pelleted alternative making them more suitable for horses on a weight management plan or with underlying conditions including laminitis, EMS and metabolic issues.

Additionally, powdered balancers often have a longer shelf life compared to pelleted balancers, they are easier to handle being in smaller tubs and can be more cost effective. This can be advantageous if you have multiple horses with varying dietary requirements, as you can keep a single container of powdered balancer and adjust the amounts as needed for each horse without worrying about spoilage.

Powdered balancers can also prove more cost effective, easier to manage and store than large sacks of pelleted balancers, powdered balancers are also more environmentally friendly due to the reduced packaging, lower production costs and transportation.

On the other hand, some horse owners prefer pelleted balancers for their convenience. Pelleted balancers are pre-portioned into small pellets, making them easy to measure and feed without the need for mixing or additional supplements. This can be especially helpful for busy horse owners or those who prefer a more straightforward feeding routine. Ultimately, the choice between a powdered or pelleted balancer depends on your horse's individual needs, your feeding preferences, and the level of customization you desire.

But never rule out a powdered alternative to a pellet purely on advertising or marketing by the big brands.
